As symbolically highlighted by the central presence of a traditional loom, the narrative here explores the realm of domestic life and activities, and the role of women within the family and the community, giving ample space to the cycle of broom-weaving as a distinctive feature of traditional Arbëreshë culture. This is a skill that the Balkan refugees who arrived in Basilicata in the 16th century already possessed, as a unique practice of self-sufficient production and a conscious expression of a cultural heritage jealously passed down from generation to generation.
